Year 11 students achieve the top grades in GCSE Sciences, English and Maths.

24th August 2018 By D. Brinton

2018 saw students at Belmont sitting the new style more rigorous GCSEs and achieving impressive results.  Results in nearly every subject are up with the most impressive improvements in English, Maths, Science, MFL and History.

The Local Authority’s investment in new science labs last year meant students could really get to grips with all the practical elements of the new rigorous GCSEs.  The results have soared as a consequence; surpassing expectations, as well as local and national averages this year.

Paul Marsden, Headteacher said: “We are thrilled for the students, who have all done so well!  These results mean they have greater options available to them post-16 and enable students to secure their first choice courses.  It will give them the self-belief to go on and become the next generation of doctors, teachers, engineers and scientists the country needs.  Belmont School is undergoing a renaissance, but we need to keep the ball rolling.  We welcome the investment from Durham County Council and have shown what we can do as a local authority school with their backing.  We believe these results highlight the need for further investment, as we are one of the only remaining Durham schools without a new build.  They are down to hard work from students and staff alike.  Everyone needs congratulating!”

The school’s growing reputation has meant that it is oversubscribed for the first time for new students in September 2018.
