MFL
The MFL department at Belmont School Community Arts College aims to provide students with a stimulating environment in which to learn a language.
Over the course of Key Stage 3, students will study a variety of everyday topics to help them cope with life in France.
These include:
- Personal Identification
- Leisure
- Ordering Food and Drink
- Asking for Directions

Key Stage 3:
Students in Key Stage 3 receive 2 x 1 hour lessons per week of MFL. They are taught in their tutor groups during years 7 and 8 and in sets according to ability in year 9.
Key Stage 4:
Students in year 10 receive 2 x 1 hour lessons per week and 3 x 1 hour lessons in year 11. At Key Stage 4 students study the AQA syllabus for GCSE. Listening, Speaking, Reading and controlled written tasks each account for 25% of the final grade at GCSE.

Extra Curricular:
As a department we are keen to encourage extra curricular experiences to further enrich language learning.
Each July, Mr McMahon takes a group of yound people to France to an activity centre in Brittany. The group also visit Paris including Parc Astérix and Disneyland Paris. The visit includes:
- Sailing
- Canoeing
- Orienteering
- Swimming
- Bowling
- Archery
In Decemeber, a group of young people visit the German Christmas markets over a long weekend in Cologne and Aachen. Despite the cold weather, this is a popular trip!
